Graduate School Welcomes New Director of Professional and Career Development
The Graduate School is pleased to welcome Dr. Susan Martin as its new Director of Professional and Career Development.
This new position is the next step in the Graduate School’s initiative to build professional and career development services targeted specifically at graduate students. Dr. Martin will be developing a robust portfolio of programs and workshops designed to prepare students, particularly doctoral students, for the challenges of the job market inside and outside of the academy. This position is a joint appointment with the University Career Center & The President’s Promise.
Martin has extensive experience as a career practitioner. She was most recently the associate director of the Center for Women in Technology at UMBC. Prior experience includes working in the UMBC Career Center, a community college advising office, a county job training program for adults, and with the UMD University Career Center. In addition to this experience, she brings a strong background in assessment, reporting, and grant writing,
Martin has a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Massachusetts, a master’s in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland, and doctorate in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University.
